"Let the little children come unto Me" were the words of Jesus and, as our children of Powhatan United Methodist Church move thru their faith journeys, we are here to help them know that Jesus does love them - all the children of the world, our community and our church.
Powhatan United Methodist Church offers Vacation Bible School every summer. This wonderful, enriching week-long experience is dedicated to exposing children the teachings of Jesus Christ in a fun and interactive manner.
Previous themes include Lava Lava Island and Bethlehem Nights among many.
Vacation Bible School is open to the community and volunteers are certainly appreciated to help out with this wonderful witness-filled week.
2011's VBS is called "Shake It Up Cafe"--Where kids carry out God's recipe. Dates are July 25th-29th from 9-12:00. Ages 4-5th grade are invited to attend. Children's Sermon is a special time dedicated to our young disciples during the 11 am service. This time enables our children to have a better understanding of God's teachings while including them as an integral part of family worship. Costumes, props, puppets, and music help make this part of Sunday worship special to children and adults alike.
Children's Church meets each Sunday (excluding fifth Sundays) during the 11:00 a.m. worship service. Here the children receive Christ's message in an age appropriate, fun approach. Meant to make the church experience exciting, as well as educational and laying the foundation for future spiritual growth. If you haven't joined us in the past, please join us soon. We have lots of fun!
Kids with Purpose is a mission orientated program that teaches kids how important it is to serve the Lord by serving each other. Kids with Purpose was developed in 2009 to encourage the children in that age group in between Children's Church and Youth Group. Not only does Kids with Purpose serve the community with such programs as Stop Hunger Now, Meals on Wheels, and more, we strive to reinforce the teachings of respect, ethics, community, compassion and commitment. In addition to its community work, Kids with Purpose enjoys field trips, retreats and other fun activities. Kids with Purpose will meet twice a month. What a wonderful way to reach out to our church and our community!

Our new nursery opened for business in February 2011!
Our newly renovated space is conveniently located behind the sanctuary. Thanks to the generous gifts of funding, time, talent and labors of love we have also been able to replace all of the furniture, toys, supplies, curtains and carpets. Our nursery director, Dana Netherland, said" it's just wonderful!" and parents have had similar sentiments to share. Be sure to stop by for a visit and see it for yourself.
A nursery is provided for toddlers and infants during the 8:30 and 11:00 am Sunday services and the Sunday School hour.
